The event was a huge success!” co-organizer Lisa Balazs told the Buzz. “We really appreciate all the Porsche Club of America Los Angeles members who brought these very special Porsches.” Balazs, a Porsche owner and garden designer (Virgo Designs & Landscaping) who has been helping Cortier revamp Larchmont Village’s landscaping, brought in the Porsche Club of America Los Angeles and the Ladies & Porsches chapter she formed.

Meanwhile, the boulevard itself is getting ready. Crews from Virgo Designs & Landscaping have been clearing and cleaning up the Larchmont median along the stretch where the cars will be staged. The company is owned by Lisa Balazs, the garden designer and vintage Porsche owner who connected Cortier with the Porsche Club of America Los Angeles and who has been helping the LBA revamp the boulevard’s medians, pots, and parking lot plantings.

The Landscaper Who Started It
If you've noticed the medians on Larchmont looking better over the past couple of years, denser plantings, drought-tolerant agave and succulents replacing whatever was there before, that work has a name attached to it: Lisa Balazs, owner of Virgo Designs & Landscaping. She's been the person the Larchmont Boulevard Association has turned to for the medians, the concrete planters, and the parking lot beds for a while now.

The Same Handful of Names, Building the Boulevard for Decades
What makes this pattern worth noticing is how small the circle actually is. Romi Cortier, the LBA's current president, has run his design business on Larchmont Boulevard for more than three decades and says he has watched the Hollywood Sign from his shop nearly every day of it. Before he became president he chaired the LBA's Beautification Committee, where he led the replanting of the boulevard's medians and concrete planters, the same medians that a landscaping crew is now clearing to stage cars for the show. That crew belongs to Virgo Designs & Landscaping, owned by Lisa Balazs, a garden designer and vintage Porsche owner who has been helping the LBA redesign the boulevard's plantings for years and who happens to belong to the Porsche Club of America Los Angeles. It was Balazs who connected Cortier to the club in the first place.

Who actually put this together
Cortier didn't build this alone. He brought in Lisa Balazs, a garden designer and owner of Virgo Designs & Landscaping who has spent the past several months helping revamp Larchmont Village's medians, pots, and parking lot plantings as part of the LBA's ongoing beautification push. Balazs owns a vintage Porsche herself, and as a member of the Porsche Club of America Los Angeles, she recently formed the club's Ladies & Porsches chapter. She was introduced to vintage cars through a design client who turned out to be one of the city's premier Porsche restorers, and by her own account, one look at the car and she was hooked.
Balazs is also a co-owner of Chevalier's Books, the boulevard's longtime independent bookstore, which puts her in the same small circle of people who run Larchmont's cultural and civic life on a volunteer basis. That's worth sitting with for a second.

LBA Replanting Larchmont’s Planters
If you’re on Larchmont Blvd today, you might notice the concrete planters are being replanted with new plants, courtesy of the Larchmont Boulevard Association. Thanks to the leadership of the LBA’s Beautification Committee Chairman, Romi Cortier, ten planters in the Village are getting a much-needed facelift. We heard from lots of readers who spotted trash piling up in the planters and passed those messages on to the LBA.
The new plants are Spanish Lavender, asparagus fern, statice, and casa blue dianella. They were selected for their hardy drought-tolerant qualities.
Lisa B. owner of Virgo Design and Landscaping, a local design and installation firm, and a longtime friend of Cortier stepped up to assist with the effort. Earlier this week she refreshed the front of Cortier’s salon at 425 N. Larchmont Blvd.......

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisa B. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Ultimately, I get my work ethic from my Dad. When I was growing up he always worked hard, no matter what, and did what he had to do to make sure we had everything. I remember when he took a way below pay-grade job after he lost his business because of the stock market crash to put food on the table for my family. We scaled back but still had everything that we needed. They were tough times and his hard work and long hours made a lasting impression on me and inspired me to do the same. I have 3 grown daughters that hopefully see the same work ethic in me....

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa B.
Hi Lisa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My background is in fashion. Years of retail, then as a sales rep of all LA Based lines, eventually opening my showroom in the California Mart then becoming a designer and having a brand of my own. I love designing and the whole process of and idea becoming an actual thing you can use or wear or touch.
Shortly after remodeling my family home, a real estate agent and good friend asked if I wanted to do one of her client’s gardens and prep the property for the photoshoot and eventually for sale. I did it, very well I might add and loved it!
I closed my company and the rest is history. It’s almost seven years and hundreds of properties ago…
